J’s Jargon

As the ski season draws near do you find yourself watching the forecast hoping for cold weather,

yes as skiers we are a crazy bunch. Well as we patiently wait for old Mother Nature to bring us our winter

playground we still have equipment to get ready. So what all needs done before the first snow falls? When

is the last time that you had a binding function test? Ok here's the scoop the ski binding is one of the most

important safety features on modern snow skis preventing countless number of leg injuries, however being

a mechanical feature it is prone to mechanical failure if not properly maintained. Having an annual

binding function test is an important part of gearing up for the season. Your local ski shop can accomplish

this task for around twenty dollars, they check the binding releases properly, is lubricated, has no stress

fractures to the structure of the binding and resets the DIN to your specific height-weight-level combination

if it has changed since the past season. I usually have a binding function test at the beginning of the season

when I take my skis in to have the base and edges tuned. Hope you have a fun and safe ski season.
